Netware
GroupWise
Saving MS Office document takes so long time. Why?
Deadlock can happen in the communication between NetWare server and client. This is a Novell bug; it have been known since the client's 'file caching' option is enabled by default (since client version 4.71).

To disable 'file caching' type
set client file caching enabled = off
command in the NetWare console.

For more information see the following website:

What should I do if I get the "cannot find public symbol" error message on a server version 4.x?
There could be problems on Novell Netware servers 4.x with loading in some nlms compiled with certain compilers if SP9 is not installed.
In this case the following error messages will appear:
"Error : Loader cannot find public symbol: closedir_510"
"Error : Load file referenced undefined public variable..."

If the problem occurs it can be fixed by installing SP9, after installation start clibaux.nlm first.

SP9 can be downloaded from Novell's homepage or directly from the following address: http://download.novell.co.uk/support/pub/allupdates/nw4sp9.exe

We receive several IWorm of type e-mails, we would like them not to be delivered to the users!
You can find the "Virus handling" submenu of the "On virus found" menu.
You should select the "Delete mail" option from the settings (if this item can't be found, please update your mailing protection package).
Then left the vbgwiano and execute the vbnotify program.

How can I install the virus protection on to a GroupWise system?
Important!! VirusBuster MailShield for GroupWise can only be used if VBShield for NetWare is installed and active!

The program's installation can be performed through a few simple steps. Copy VBGWIA.NLM, VBGWIA.SET, VBNOTIFY.NLM and VBGWIANO.NLM into VBENGINE.NLM's directory. Modify the VBGWIA.SET file as required with the help of VBGWIANO.NLM's menu system (it can be performed manually as well).

Set the following in the set file:

1. GroupWise Internet Agent's work directory ( [::\VBGWIA\domains\xxx] section, "GWIAdir" parameter).
2. The quarantine and work directory ( [::\VBGWIA\domains\xxx] section, "quarantine" and "workDir" parameters).
3. Select and create the directory needed for GWIA's and VBGWIA's communication ( [::\VBGWIA\domains\xxx] section "CHKdir" parameter). Create the SEND, RECEIVE, RESULT folders in it. (This is needed because messages are moved to these directories for virus scanning from GroupWise's same folders.)

Set GroupWise Internet Agent to use the communication directory. (NetWare Administrator, Tools menu, GroupWise view, then select GWIA from the NDS tree, "Details", "Server Directories", "Advanced" button, SMTP service queues directory field in the appearing window) Specify the same directory as in the previous point. (CHKDir parameter).

Important!!! By specifying the SMTP service queues directory, GWIA will only forward messages through the SMTP channel if the SMTP service queues directory field is deleted or the VBGWIA.NLM is loaded!

Finally, load the VBGWIA program (load vbgwia).
If these steps have been performed in order, mail flow will be recovered in the SMTP channel. From now on, VBGWIA.NLM will "help" in forwarding mail while it scans letters according to its settings.
